1. Brooklyn 99

There has to be one comedy on the list and there’s probably no funnier show on TV than Brooklyn 99. On the surface it’s a by the numbers US sit-com, but it’s so much better. It’s as easy to watch as Friends and you can quite accidentally watch a whole series in a long afternoon. At 30 minutes an episode it’s a good show to break up the other shows you’re binging.

2. Lost

What I believe is the show that started it all. A show that changed the world, by asking more questions than it could possibly answer. Without it, TV wouldn’t be what we have now. Although the show has many lows, the end of series 3, is worth the entry price alone. A show that started like a 2004 Lord of the Flies turns into much much more.

1. Band of Brothers

The shortest show on the list, but the most cinematic. Seen as a follow up to Saving Private Ryan, it somehow manages to eclipse the film in every way. There’s the literal explosive episodes towards the beginning to the quieter horrors of war towards the end. There’s also a drinking game for every time you see someone who’s now a household name.

4. Stranger Things

THE Netflix show. The show that made me realise Netflix was taking this original content stuff seriously. Every series I’ve watched in the same day it came out, finishing series 3 at 5am before a 9am start was rough. It’s ET meets Goonies meets Super 8. It’s a fantastic show filled with iconic moments and even more iconic characters.

5. Breaking Bad

Is this the show that made binging a thing? It took me to the 3rd series before it finally clicked, but when it did I was hooked. To say Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman aren’t the perfect double act is blasphemous. It’s truly everything, gripping, tense, funny and dramatic. And the ending… how satisfying is that?
